This site is alternatively known as Ras Za'tar or Ras Za'atir. It is a deep dive. Located on the northern tip of Ras Mohamed Peninsula, it is truly one of the best kept secrets in the area. Here, your chances of encountering sharks are at their highest. Even more so than at the neighboring famed Shark Reef. One word of advice: before your climb up, take a look under you.The dark depth beneath should give you an awesome and fascinating feeling of being in an endless pit. The site itself consists of well-fissured and cracked steep wall which extends very deep down housing a large variety of marine life. There are also some large caves filled with many types of swaying soft corals and ample glass sweepers.
Many open sea fish congregate here including, black-tipped sharks, manta rays, and the ever present barracuda.
Most typical reef fish are found at the shallower end of the wall and provide a beautiful view. There are also hundreds of Longnose Hawkfish swimming around the black coral trees that are found further down the wall. The coral formations are particularly splendid at the southern end of the site , with both hard and soft varieties available.Large-scale growth of Xeniid soft corals are evident. The site also features large colonies of other tiny invertebrates including the Feather Tubeworms, and Nudibranches. visibility is generally best at the southern reaches. It diminishes everywhere the deeper you go but averages out at 20m (65ft) for the whole site.
