The name, as you guessed, comes from the great number of garden eels (Gorgasia Sillneri) found on the sandy sea bed of this site.
To enter this site you must pass through a small passageway which spirals down from the reef top to an exit point on the reef at a depth of about 7m (23ft). It is less than 2m wide at some points which means that the funnel affect could mean you have to exert more effort in the plunge. Once you exit the passageway, you are met with a northward leading wide sandy slope that is covered with garden eels
On the other side of the sand there is a sloping reef wall with scattered coral heads.
Though it is quickly clear that eels have are the dominant numbers, the site is also home to a large number of Lionfish, groupers, the beautiful parrotfish, baslets, morays Bluespine unicorns, sand gobies, lyre tail cod, and damsels.
The corals that are found here include
Acropora, Antler coral, Plate, Cabbage, Elephant ear sponge, Dendronephthya and Xeniids.
